Holiday 2019 Lookbook: Party Outfits

Hello from sunny Aruba!

Even though we are away this year for the holidays, that doesn’t mean we won’t be dressing up for some fun holiday parties on board our cruise.  Before we left I put together some of my favorite holiday party looks to help you guys get some inspiration and ideas for those last minute holiday parties or Christmas Eve/Day get togethers!

Hope you enjoy and here is to partying our way into 2020!

Tulle-tide Carols and Songs by the Choir

I used to be self concious about tulle skirts.  I think I always worried that being curvy to begin with, the last thing I needed was to add a poofy skirt to my silhouette.  But in the last year of this decade I decided to throw caution and insecurity to the wind and embrace the princessy-est fabric of them all!

I love balancing the weight and space of the skirt with a form fitting camisole or body suit.  You can go sexier with a lace camisole like the black and white ones  picked up from Amazon.  Or lean into a more cozy holiday vibe with these velvet camisoles from Old Navy.  If it is a more professional/office holiday party you can through on a complimentary blazer to make the look a little more upscale.

These particular tulle skirts I got from Amazon and they come in a huge variety of colors so you can rock them all year long or for any occasion or holiday.  They pair so well with just a simple pair of pumps.  I happened to have a pair of gorgeous forest green suede pumps from Forever 21 that paired perfectly with the green skirt.  Another easy choice is just a pair of nude or black pumps.

High Spirits and High Waists

Another great trend that I love for parties is a nice High Waisted Wide Leg pant paired with a crop top or camisole.  Similar to the tulle skirt theory, to balance out the weight and space of a full bottom, more form fitting or smaller tops help to make sure that you don’t get lost in all the fabric of your look.

I particularly love these silk high waisted pants I got from Amazon’s The Drop.  The waist is very flattering and the wide leg is actually wide enough for my sizeable bottom half that it doesn’t look ill fitting.  The material gives it a more elegant look and the light beige color provides a perfect canvas for a more dramatic top so the eye is drawn upwards and gives you a longer looking silhouette.  I reused the Amazon Lace camisole from my tulle looks which also provides a great canvas for a statement necklace, earrings or even just some daring makeup colors.  Another option is a crop top similar to this one I got from Boohoo a few years ago.  Again going with a basic black allows your makeup or jewelry to shine without overpowering the whole look.

My favorite part about these pants, they are so roomy in the bottom that it leaves plenty of room to hit the holiday dessert table a few times without feeling constrained by my outfit 😂. A major plus for any party outfit choice!

Not An Ugly Sweater

As much as I LOVE an ugly sweater, sometimes it is not the time and place for that.  This gold sweater from Kohl’s like 5 years ago goes on heavy rotation during the holiday season.  The cable knit is so cozy and can easily be worn over a collared shirt or on its own.  You can go casual with some leggings and comfy socks for Christmas day or elevate the look with this adorable plaid miniskirt from Banana Republic that has matching gold accents to tie the look together.

Instead of tights, some suede over the knee boots like these ones from Amazon are a great modern update on a classic sweater/skirt combo

Velveteen Dream

I have a not-so-secret love on anything velvet.  The minute the weather starts to turn even just a little chilly I start looking for ways to work it into my outfits in subtle ways.  A velvet cami here, a plush scrunchie or head band there.  Velvet shoes you say? Of course!  But when it comes to the holidays, I stop playing coy and go full tilt.  Like with this adorable velvet swing dress form Old Navy.  You can wear it as a pinafore over a collared shirt, or even a lace cap sleeve bodysuit.  But sometimes just the dress itself with some suede over the knee boots is simple elegance.  Dare I say it, you could even carry this look from Christmas Even into a New Year’s Eve look with some sparkly jewelry and hair accessories to help you ring in the new year with some glitz and shine!
