Continuing with my goal to try new techniques with each month’s spreads this month I was really inspired by Youtube artist Shayda Campbell and her dutch door Bullet Journal spreads so I thought I would give it a try.  I’m still not ready to completely abandon some of the watercolor elements I incorporated in prior month’s spreads but I think all the elements came together really nicely this month.

One technique I absolutely fell in love with this month was using the tracing paper and transfer paper to cleanly lay down the pencil outlines of the more intricate drawings and save myself the headache of lost of erase marks and ghost outlines from rough drafts or mistakes I made.

Normally I shy away from floral designs or patterns because I just get so bogged down in the details but I think the daffodil is really a great flower for beginners especially if you are interested in trying out different angles of flowers and playing with how shape and shading changes in your depth of field.  While I am by no means ready to dedicate all my monthly spreads to florals, I am definitely hooked on florals and will keep on experimenting with them in my sketch pad.  Who knows, maybe some will sneak into some future spreads or themes!
